DESCRIPTION:Introduced invasive thistle species can outcompete native plants and take over large areas\, creating dense monocultures if left unmanaged. SUMMARY:Volunteer with BSLT’s “Green Team” at Big Sur International Marathon | April 30
DESCRIPTION:During the Big Sur International Marathon upcoming on Sunday\, April 30\, Big Sur Land Trust will be stepping up to ensure that this iconic running event achieves its goal of ecological sustainability. This will be our second year extending our work for healthy lands\, healthy people\, and healthy communities in this way. As is true with so much of what we accomplish\, we couldn’t have done it without our volunteers and we hope you will join us again to help runners from around the world leave no trace on the lands we love. \nWhat this opportunity entails: \nYour volunteer shift will begin… at the finish! Volunteers will gather at Hwy 1 and Rio Road at 4:00 am on Sunday\, April 30. Vans will transport volunteers to a station along the marathon course\, where you will wait… and then cheer! When the final runner has passed your station\, you can begin your 3-mile sweep towards the finish line. Once you have finished sweeping your 3-mile segment\, and once the road has reopened to traffic\, vans will transport you back to the finish line. Volunteers should count on arriving back at the finish line by around 2:00 pm. DESCRIPTION:We have recently removed a lot of irrigation lines from our restoration site at Glen Deven Ranch and need help sorting out the useable line and fittings! This involves removing fittings (emitter heads\, T-joints\, metal clamps\, etc. and sorting them) and then sorting out useable stretches of irrigation line itself. This will likely require cutting out the damaged sections of line and then sorting by thickness. The lines are currently in 2 piles at the property – 1 near the entrance gate and 1 near the property caretakers house in the driveway. \nSpace is limited so sign up today!

Together with your help and the help of our partners we will be treating a large stand of French broom; ensuring that the population does not continue to spread across the Ranch. \nAt the event you will be helping us pull French Broom sprouts before they have a chance to grow and seed. You’ll also be hearing from our Project Manager Alex Kalish the effects of French Broom on the grasslands of the Central Coast. \n
