Here’s your opportunity to help us select the final name for our park project in Salinas!

In late summer 2023, the community submitted ideas for naming Big Sur Land Trust’s 73-acre park project at Carr Lake in Salinas. A naming committee made up of local residents and community leaders have considered all the submitted names and selected three names to be presented for community feedback. Please take this survey (in English or Spanish) and submit one choice before the end of the day on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

The committee chose the names proposed in this survey based on

• the number of votes each name received. (These three names received the most votes.)
• the meaning of these names to residents.
• the historical significance of each name.

We are presenting the final names in alphabetical order, not in order of any preference. Please carefully read the summaries for each proposed name to understand their meaning and context. Select only ONE name. And, please forward this email to people who are interested in helping to name this park.

Note that many residents feel it is important to add “community” to whichever name we choose, so we have added that as an option for each name. Big Sur Land Trust together with the City of Salinas will use the results of this survey to inform our final decision on the park’s name.
