Request a Big Sur Land Trust Hike

As we balance land conservation with access to outdoor experiences for all, BSLT preserves are accessible by reservation only. Read the notice below and your confirmation email thoroughly, as they contain information necessary for preserve access (closure notices, gate codes, etc.). If we do not have an active (annual) waiver on file for you, you will receive a waiver request by email. Please be sure to sign this waiver prior to your hike.

Weather permitting, all preserves are open to hikers with reservations every day from  9AM – 5PM. Preserves may close temporarily for occasional repairs.

Big Sur Land Trust trails are not continually monitored. Please come prepared for self-sufficient backcountry hiking. Trail conditions may be reported to hiking@bigsurlandtrust.org. Current known closures:

Dog Policy: These rules are in place for the safety of you and your pup, and to protect wildlife and sensitive habitat.

  • Marks Ranch: No dogs allowed
  • Glen Deven Ranch: Dogs are welcome year-round, and must be on leash on all trails
  • Mitteldorf Preserve: Dogs are welcome year-round and must be on leash on all trails

Other Important things to know:

  • Be aware that bears, mountain lions, and a variety of other wildlife are present on BSLT preserves.
  • Ticks are active all year. Take precautions, always stay on trails and do thorough tick checks after every hike. Check out the CDC's recommendations for more information.
  • Watch for falling trees and branches. Always stay aware of your surroundings.
  • There is little to no cell service throughout BSLT preserves. Please come prepared.
  • Do not follow unmarked trails.
  • Leave no trace! Please:
    • Stay on the road or trail;
    • Pack it in, pack it out; and
    • Leave what you find (no collecting)
