While Monterey County continues its progress towards being fully open, please follow the County’s guidelines. Stay safe!
Important note: In order to complete the long-awaited replacement of Bridge #10, Mitteldorf Preserve will be closed to all hiking from mid-August through early October. We appreciate your patience.
Here’s some background on the project. In July 2016, the Soberanes Fire swept through Mitteldorf Preserve and subsequent heavy winter rains damaged the property further. Bridge #10, which provides access to the lodge, the Nature Loop trail and the Dewing Redwood, sustained significant structural damage. It is on the verge of collapsing into Williams Creek, threatening sensitive habitat including NOAA-designated critical habit for Steelhead Trout. We are looking forward to having this important project finished as soon as possible! Learn more about Mitteldorf Preserve here.
And, as we continue addressing the damage from the River Fire, hiking at Marks Ranch in Salinas remains closed.
Weather and maintenance projects permitting, Big Sur Land Trust's properties are open year-round with managed access. Visitors may hike — by reservation only — until 5pm at Glen Deven Ranch in Big Sur, Mitteldorf Preserve and Patriarch Ridge in Carmel Valley. After we receive your request and signed waiver(s) we send you maps, gate codes, etc. for your hike. Questions? Please send your question to email@example.com or call (831) 625-5523 and select option 2.
