Introducing Chris Moon, Owner/Operator of Lonely Bull Cattle Company

Chris Moon’s family has been in the cattle business in Big Sur for more than 50 years. His parents have been the long-time caretakers of the Brazil Ranch and Chris grew up on his family’s ranch next door. After working on several cattle ranches in eastern Oregon, Chris wanted to travel the world, so he joined the Army, serving as an Airborne Ranger for ten years.

He returned to the area a couple of years ago, got married, started a family, and launched Lonely Bull Cattle Company. Chris explains, “I love cattle ranching. I feel that when grazing is done properly it can greatly benefit the ecosystems of this area. I care about the land in this region and I know that areas that are sustainably grazed consistently have much more robust and healthy flora and fauna.”

Chris has grazing leases at the Dowd Ranch and Rancho Rico – and has recently spent a majority of his time replacing fences and water systems, doing invasive species control, mowing brush, planting native grasses, since these properties have not had grazing for decades.

Chris brings a wealth of knowledge about local lands – and the team at Big Sur Land Trust is looking forward to partnering with him at Glen Deven Ranch!
