Ferrini Ranch | Salinas
Big Sur Land Trust (BSLT) and Trust for Public Land (TPL) are collaborating to ensure the permanent protection of Ferrini Ranch, an 866-acre ecologically and culturally significant landscape along Highway 68 in Salinas. The ranch had been slated for an upscale residential development and event venue, which would threaten critical wildlife corridors and water resources, and increase wildfire risk. However, with the landowner’s willingness to prioritize conservation, TPL stepped in to acquire the property, securing a bridge loan from the Community Foundation Santa Cruz County’s Central Coast Climate and Conservation Action Fund (Strike Fund). BSLT is now managing the land while working to close a $15.5 million funding gap to ensure its permanent protection.
