Embrace Your Flower Prowess

As the days get longer, Big Sur Land Trust’s preserves are bursting with spring blooms. Now is the perfect time to embrace your Flower Prowess and get outside to connect more deeply with Mother Nature.

As you hike through our preserves, we invite you to become an iNaturalist for Big Sur Land Trust and help us collect photos of flora and fauna that you see. Any photo of a living organism, or signs of a living organism such as scat or a feather, can be uploaded to iNaturalist. Make sure the photo is focused on a single object, and it includes geolocation and a timestamp.

Getting started is simple: download the app, create an account, and begin capturing what you see. You can snap photos directly in the app during your hike or upload them later. Once your photos have been uploaded, you can then explore identification suggestions and share your findings with the community. Each submission adds to our collective understanding of the plants and animals that grow and thrive on the lands.

We invite you to reserve a hike, lace up your boots, and get outside to explore the scientific wonders of your favorite trail in Monterey County. Together, we can better understand and protect these ecosystems for generations to come.

Happy hiking,

Jeannette Tuitele-Lewis
