Introduced invasive thistle species can outcompete native plants and take over large areas, creating dense monocultures if left unmanaged. In addition, invasive thistles, such as Italian thistle, can form physical barriers that inhibit livestock and wildlife from entering an area, and their height can increase the risk of severe wildfire by creating readily available ladder fuels.
Volunteers will use hand tools to remove as many Italian thistle sprouts as possible along the main road to the Hacienda.
