This Month: Race for Open Space Guided Hike Opportunities  

Join a guided hike in April to support our race to save open space! There’s something for everyone and you’ll be contributing to the care of the lands you love throughout Monterey County. If you’d rather join a trail run during our Adventure Course event you can sign up here.

Guided Hike: Marks Ranch

Nothing quite sums up springtime in the Salinas Valley like a walk through vast fields of wildflowers. This guided hike at Marks Ranch will surely delight you with rolling green pastures and endless lupines! This hike spotlights Marks Ranch and the Toro County Park backcountry, especially the Robert V. and Patricia M. Brown Overlook Trail offering sweeping vistas of the Salinas Valley.

Guided Hike: Williams Canyon to San Jose Creek

This course offers varied terrain, sweeping panoramic views, many different ecosystems, and a journey across beautiful conserved lands. This course boasts an estimated 1,100 feet of elevational gain over the 8 miles and includes some steep ascents and descents. The trailhead begins at Williams Canyon Road.

Guided Hike: Mitteldorf Preserve to Joshua Creek

Whether you have hiked this region a hundred times or you are new to the area, this guided “adventure hike” is one you won’t want to miss! This all-day hike loops through several conserved lands along the Central Coast: Santa Lucia Preserve, Mitteldorf Preserve, Patriarch Ridge, Joshua Creek Canyon Ecological Reserve, and Palo Corona Regional Park.

Spring Clean Up – Litter Pick Up at Marks Ranch

Bring your family and join us on this light volunteer day as we pick up litter at Marks Ranch! This is a family-friendly event, so bring your little ones and your not-so-little ones, too! We’ll collect litter from the entrance area and from the front pastures. You will also get to enjoy the first flower blooms of the year as you collect trash on the pastures and along the creek.

Volunteer with BSLT’s “Green Team” at the Big Sur International Marathon

Here’s a unique opportunity to experience the Big Sur International Marathon (BSIM) without actually running!

During the BSIM on Sunday, April 30, Big Sur Land Trust will be stepping up to ensure that this iconic running event achieves its goal of ecological sustainability. This will be our second year extending our work for healthy lands, healthy people, and healthy communities and we hope you will join us to help runners from around the world leave no trace on the lands we love.

Learn more and sign up by Saturday, April 8 at the Volunteer Local site. Enter the password BSLT and the available shifts for our team will appear. Then simply check the available shift and fill in all your pertinent information.
