Public Comment Period for BSLT’s Accreditation Renewal is Now Open through May 27, 2023
The land trust accreditation program recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. Big Sur Land Trust is pleased to announce it is applying for accreditation renewal. A public comment period is now open.
The accreditation seal is a mark of distinction in land conservation. It is awarded to land trusts meeting the highest national standards for excellence and conservation permanence. Each accredited land trust completes a rigorous review process and joins a network of organizations united by strong ethical practices. This trusted network of land trusts has demonstrated fiscal accountability, strong organizational leadership, sound transactions, and lasting stewardship of the lands they conserve.
The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, conducts an extensive review of each applicant’s policies and programs. Jeannette Tuitele-Lewis, President and CEO of Big Sur Land Trust says, “As we continue to conserve and care for the magnificent landscapes, habitats, and waterways throughout Monterey County while addressing climate resiliency and helping to ensure a more sustainable future, Big Sur Land Trust’s accreditation strengthens our credibility and the quality of our work. Donors, funders, and partners who share our love for the unique lands in our region can feel confident that we maintain the highest standards and practices. The renewal process further ensures our 45-year legacy of supporting healthy lands, healthy people, and healthy communities will continue to be fulfilled for the long run.”
The Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how Big Sur Land Trust complies with national quality standards. These standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust. Click here for the full list of standards.
