Register for our 2022 Race for Open Space! + Two job openings

Move for the Lands You Love in April

No matter your fitness level or where you live, Big Sur Land Trust’s Race for Open Space has something for everyone! You can run/walk/hike conserved properties in Big Sur, Carmel Valley, and Salinas. And, thanks to our partners at Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District, California State Parks, Santa Lucia Preserve, and Santa Lucia Conservancy, experienced trail runners can choose our 9-mile, 10-mile, and 21-mile Adventure Courses on conserved lands that are not usually publicly accessible. Plus, we’re leading guided hikes on other open spaces that are rarely open to the public! Live out of the area? You can participate on your favorite local trails.

Throughout these challenging times, many of us have rediscovered the amazing solace that nature offers. Maybe it’s on a trail nestled deep in a redwood forest or a ridge overlooking the ocean. Maybe it’s on an oak woodland filled with wildflowers or a quiet garden patch in the middle of a bustling city.

Wherever it may be, you’re out on the land you love – the places you return to time and time again to hike, run, walk, play, or just be still. These treasured open spaces add so much to your wellbeing and that of your loved ones, and they represent the health and vitality of your community.

We hope you’ll join us and get moving for healthy lands, healthy people, and healthy communities! You’ll be supporting our mission to inspire love of land across generations, conservation of our unique Monterey County landscapes, and access to outdoor experiences for all.
