WCB’s Open House + Meet Our New Team Members!

Wildlife Conservation Board Strategic Plan Workshop in Monterey

The California Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) plays a crucial role in allocating funds for the purchase of land and waters for the preservation, protection, and restoration of wildlife habitat and for recreation purposes. WCB has been a significant supporter of Big Sur Land Trust by providing substantial financial assistance for projects like our Ensen Community Park and restoration project at Carr Lake in Salinas and our protection of critical wildlife corridors on over 5,000 acres at Basin Ranch in Carmel Valley.

WCB is holding workshops around the state to discuss their 2025-2030 Strategic Plan. You’re invited to this informal, open house-style workshop to learn about WCB and help them chart their future. Interactive stations will highlight programs that support protecting biodiversity, increasing access to nature, and taking action on climate change with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Stop by and stay as long as you like!

Yes on Prop 4 will Prevent Wildfire, Provide Clean Drinking Water, and Protect California

As California faces devastating wildfires, vulnerable drinking water supplies, extreme summer heat, and other major threats from a changing climate – voting Yes on Prop 4 makes urgent investments in proven solutions to protect our communities, health, and economy. It addresses threats to our iconic landscapes, coast, and wildlife before the damage becomes too costly and unmanageable. Along with individual donors, Big Sur Land Trust relies on state agencies like the California Coastal Conservancy, the Wildlife Conservation Board, and others which use funding from initiatives like Prop 4.

By voting “Yes!” on Prop 4, you will help make our region more resilient while also helping Big Sur Land Trust and other conservation organizations remain proactive in the face of climate-related challenges! Visit yesonprop4ca.com to learn more and get involved.

Another Successful Youth Leadership Series

After five incredible months of programming, Big Sur Land Trust’s 2024 Youth Leadership Series recently wrapped up!

In March, five Youth Leaders from across Monterey County embarked on a journey designed to cultivate the next generation of environmental leaders by offering outdoor recreation and environmental career-building opportunities.

This year, we celebrated their achievements by inviting their family and friends out to Marks Ranch for a graduation ceremony and luncheon. Congratulations, Cohort of 2024!
