Update: Colorado Fire

Thank you to all who have expressed concern during the Colorado Fire this week in Big Sur. Thankfully, Glen Deven Ranch remained safe and so did Jim Cox. We are grateful the fire has been largely contained, and evacuation and road closure orders have been lifted. Out of respect for returning residents and the fire and repair crews who will need access to support recovery efforts, Glen Deven Ranch will remain closed to hikers. We’re grateful to all the people who fought the fire, supported emergency crews, and continue to extend a helping hand to those affected.

Since we are still celebrating Thankuary, I wanted to thank all our amazing volunteers who have given so generously of their time and talents this past year. Our volunteer board of trustees and committee members, advisory council members and science advisors spent many hours helping to guide Big Sur Land Trust’s priorities through uncertain circumstances. Our mighty stewardship volunteers masked up when necessary and headed out on the land for all types of projects: invasive species removal, cleaning up Marks Ranch when it was safe after the River Fire, restoring the creek banks around the new bridge at Mitteldorf Preserve, maintaining trails and countless other tasks! Community members from all over the county volunteered for planting days at Carr Lake and came out to support the approval of the project by the Salinas city council. And these are just some of the many examples!

As this week’s Colorado Fire proved, we cannot know when challenges will arise. Yet, our Big Sur Land Trust team continues to persevere because of the generous support of our volunteers, donors, sponsors, funders, and partners.

We’re sending you all our sincerest gratitude.
