Ensen Community Park Project Highlighted in California Annual Progress Report
We’re proud that the Ensen Community Park Project—previously known as the Carr Lake Restoration and Park Development Project—was highlighted in the California 30×30 Initiative’s July 2025 Progress Report as a model for advancing equity and access to nature. Featured under the core commitment to “Advance Benefits and Belonging for All,” the report recognizes our collaborative, community-led effort to create new green space in Salinas.
Once complete, the project will add the 67-acre restored floodplain beside the neighborhood park, with plans for 1.7 miles of public nature trails. With support from state agencies and dedicated local volunteers, Ensen Community Park is helping to build a more inclusive, climate-resilient California.

Defend the Dunes from Invading Iceplant!
Big Sur Land Trust’s preserve at Martin Dunes protects critical habitat for several special status species, including the Monterey spineflower, Smith’s blue butterfly, and Western snowy plover. However, introduced invasive species such as iceplant and annual grasses are widespread threats to this native coastal dune system. Join us in ensuring the native plants and animals have the best chance for success!
