Meredith May, author of The Honey Bus, will have a very special presentation for us at our upcoming virtual book club event on July 23 from 4:00 – 6:00pm (PT)!

Her memoir reveals life lessons she learned in her grandfather’s Big Sur bee yard. She’s won the PEN USA Literary Award for Journalism, the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism, and first place awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press.

Did you know that the Ten-lined June Beetle (AKA the watermelon beetle) is a relatively long-lived insect, with its larval form lasting up to four years!? Corinne Calhoun, Big Sur Land Trust’s Youth Outdoor Programs Manager, shares her latest backyard nature sighting.

Update on Our Ancient Dewing Tree

The Arthur Stone Dewing Redwood is an ancient tree at Mitteldorf Preserve. Named after Harvard Professor and author Arthur Stone Dewing (b. 1880 – d. 1971), the tree towers just beyond the lodge on the Nature Loop.
