FREE! Arts! Science! Children’s Activities! Food! Using the languages of science and art to interpret the dynamic landscape of the Salinas Valley this exhibition features scientific interpretation by CSUMB students and Geology Professor, Dr. Douglas Smith. Featured artists Paola Berthoin and Janet Whitchurch conceived the exhibition in conversation with these scientists. Artists from the community contributed pieces celebrating both the land and people of the Salinas Valley. Experimental landscape films created by CSUMB Cinematic Arts and Technology Students will also be shown. Big Sur Land Trust is excited to be a partner in creating interpretive images and hands-on experiences for this exhibition along with First 5 Monterey County and Hartnell College: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)! Guided Hike at Martin Dunes
May 4, 2019 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM Moderately strenuous hike
Martin Dunes is a 125-acre biological wonderland filled with wind-swept sands, wildflowers and spectacular views. Bring binoculars to view everything this ancient seafloor offers including 17 different rare and threatened plants and animals. Wear layers as temperatures can vary. Pack water, sunscreen, snacks and a blanket to sit on. No pets, please. This hike is moderately strenuous as we’ll be trekking around the coastline and sand dunes.
