Protect Our Local Landscapes – Monterey County Gives! Maximizes Your Impact!

Monterey County Gives! 2024 – Make an Impact!

Big Sur Land Trust is excited to once again take part in Monterey County Gives! in partnership with the Monterey County Weekly and Community Foundation of Monterey County. From now until December 31, donations are boosted by a challenge gift as well as by a partial match from MCGives! sponsors.

We are busy working to ensure access to outdoor spaces for all by partnering with our community to bring nature back to the heart of Salinas. Your support in MCGives! will help us turn a 67-acre floodplain area into a thriving network of wildlife habitats and walking trails at Ensen Community Park at Carr Lake. This green sanctuary will attract native pollinators and birds, and provide a recreational space for everyone.

You can donate here to take action for healthy lands, healthy people, and healthy communities.

The Passing of CA Prop 4 Means Support for Conservation Organizations

California voters passed Prop 4 and ensured urgent investments in proven solutions to protect our communities, health, and economy. As the state faces devastating wildfires, vulnerable drinking water supplies, extreme summer heat, and other major threats from a changing climate, measures like this are exceedingly important. It will address threats to our iconic landscapes, coast, and wildlife before the damage becomes too costly and unmanageable. Along with individual donors, Big Sur Land Trust relies on state agencies like the California Coastal Conservancy, the Wildlife Conservation Board, and others which use funding from initiatives like Prop 4. Conservation organizations will now have more support to continue their work and to remain proactive in the face of climate-related challenges!

A Successful Workshop for the Wildlife Conservation Board

The California Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) held a workshop here in Monterey to discuss their 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, and community attendance demonstrated the interest in being actively involved. These conversations are vital to ensure the longevity and success of the WCB’s work to preserve, protect, and restore land for wildlife habitats and for recreation. WCB is a significant supporter of Big Sur Land Trust, providing substantial financial assistance for projects like our Ensen Community Park and restoration project at Carr Lake in Salinas. We are proud to be part of these coordinated efforts within a collective movement of conservation nonprofits to protect the lands we love.

Thank you to all who attended and to the Japanese American Citizen League for hosting this important event.
